First of all, I want to say I like PSY and his "Gangnam Style" very much. Besides, I like South Korea and have a lot of South Korean friends, too.
I read this article Japan's indifference to the "Jiangnan style", the voice of "anger" in Korea in Japanese (and now translated in English via Google), and I want to tell the South Koreans about the music marketplace in Japan.
Anyway, let me get to the main point. Do you know, in Japan, music from foreign countries never be all the go. I mean, almost Japanese listen only to J-Pop. Here's an example. I think you have ever listened to LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" which is the song went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on January 7, 2012 and remained there for two weeks (quoted from Wikipedia), though it couldn't be in fashion among Japanese excepting the minorities who went to dance clubs.
However the song is heard all over the world, the Japanese never mind it, by right, don't know it.
But meanwhile, actually it's Korean boom in Japan, so why "Gangnam Style" can't be boom, too? The reason is, I think, PSY wasn't promoted in Japan. I know he wasn't being promoted in other countries, but in Japan the song sold well is one in fully prepared such as Girls Generation, KARA, TVXQ.
Then, let oppa enjoy it.
